50 years since the UCPA avalanche in Val d'Isère

Do you remember this avalanche which happened in 1970 in Val d’Isère Ski Resort? Were you even born?

If the answer is no and yes, by the way, we propose you this video coming from l’INA which reports this extraordinary avalanche and damages created by it. Indeed, this 10th February 1970 at 8 O’clock, a massive quantity of snow broke away at more than 2900 meters of altitude (Pointe du Front) because of recent snowfalls, running all the way down in the valley till UCPA’s building (Union Nationale des centres sportifs de plein air), engulfed under the powder. No one had ever seen a snow catastrophe this violent with 39 killed and 37 injured.

This event changed the public opinion a lot as for the reality of natural risks and preventions to set up in consequence.
